Walking Stick Bonsai Tree For Sale (corylus avellana ‘contorta’)

The European Filbert or Hazel-Nut is usually grown because of its delicious nuts, but maybe not this one. ‘Contorta’ is better-known as Harry’s Walking-Stick, has wonderfully twisted and contorted weeping branches which are especially dramatic when bare. In late-winter to early spring, 23″ long, yellowish catkins seem, dangling like decorations in the wiry skeleton. They may be followed by wide, fuzzed, droopy leaves that turn yellow before they drop in the autumn. In spring as well as summer and early fall, it’s big crinkly leaves so compact it conceals the exaggerated corkscrew look of the limbs. Deciduous. Keep outside.
